Until Everyone Can Read: Children’s Books Representing Dyslexic Readers
Until Everyone Can Read: Children’s Books Representing Dyslexic Readers expands access to children’s books that both reflect the experiences of readers with dyslexia and introduce foundational concepts from the science of reading.
Children with dyslexia are underrepresented in children’s literature, and families often lack access to clear, evidence-based guidance on how to support early reading development. This initiative addresses both gaps by increasing access to representative texts and pairing them with practical, research-aligned caregiver supports.
Through partnerships with community libraries, this initiative increases awareness, promotes inclusive representation, and supports families in engaging with books in meaningful, evidence-based ways.
How It Works
- Community libraries are identified as partners. While we aim to bring this initiative to all libraries in Northern Ohio, those serving high-poverty school districts, as defined by ODEW are prioritized.
- Existing collections are reviewed to determine areas of need.
- Book sets are provided to supplement and strengthen current offerings.
- Caregiver resources are shared to support the use of books at home.
Resources for Participating Libraries
As part of this initiative, participating libraries receive:
- Curated sets of children's books (selected from the Dyslexia Awareness Month Toolkit)
- Companion caregiver resources to support meaningful, evidence-based reading interactions
